First, I gathered any found papers and magazines.
We had to look for different colors in our found papers to meet the requirements. For my analogous piece, I chose to use colors from the blue, blue violet, violet, and red violet groups. I decided to use rounded and wavy shapes, which I had also done for my second collage on split complimentary. Once I assembled all my cut outs, I began to glue and place them in different spots and directions to create a more abstract approach.
This is the final product of the analogous collage.
For my second piece on split complimentary, I decided to use colors from the yellow, red orange, and blue-green groups. As I did in my first collage, I collected the colors I wanted to use and made a variety of wavy and rounded shapes as well.
After the first part of the two finished collages. The final part of the project was to paint them on canvas. I decided to make a sketch on the canvas board first for a more accurate placement of my shapes. With Liquitex paints and a palette knife, I began to mix colors that corresponded to the colors on the collages.
Beginning with my analogous piece, I used blue and red to create the colors in between, which were the violets. I also mixed in black for shades and white for tints. I first began painting the background, then I painted in the objects.
For my split complimentary piece, I used blue and green to achieve the teal colors, which I used to paint the background first. As I got to opposite colors, I used yellow and red to make orange.
The main goal and objective to this project was to get a good grasp on the relationship between colors and shapes. I think it gave me a better understanding of color mixing and how different shapes in a visual can affect the way an image is viewed.
