Project Reflection - Three Wishes

I found it very interesting and amusing that there's so much more going on behind the scenes of a video. Having every second of these scenes were helpful in putting together a creative clip. I enjoyed these interviews. I found so much creativity in every one of them.

I thought we had a good question to ask. Maybe one thing I'd change is having a sub-question for our main one. Sometimes I just want to know more behind their answers. I'd probably change the whole genie part of the question and not include it. Such as "if you could wish for anything you want, what would it be?" But overall, I think our question produced very interesting and diverse answers.

We met up as a group and edited the video together. We all contributed to discussions about what would work and not work with the video. I think we each provided about an equal amount of work to this video project. There were not much disagreements going on and we always found a way to work out any differences.

Reprimer

Here is my reprimer project:
http://pomo.cca.edu/~ctan/Reprimer%20Project/reprimer.html

I made the idea of "Buy or Sell" a semi hidden theme/message in this video. I wanted to create quick flashes of the message (something almost subliminal). I mixed up the audio as well to make it confusing and irrelevant so that by the end of the video, the only thought about it is "buy or sell".

Blog Progress 3

I am not so sure what else I want to change. I thought the header of each post was a bit too bold so I went down a shade of orange. There are a lot of sections of the layout code that I tried testing and making changes to but some don't seem to come up, such as the footer. I never got what it was suppose to change. The comment links were also one of the things I have not made changes to yet, but I think they're fine the way they are.

Blog Progress 2

I decided to give the heading of each post a border to better distinguish each blog subject. I also centered the heading for a more balanced header.

I included the code:

boder:1px solid;
text-align:center;

& posted it under ".post h3" in the html layout.

Blog Progress

I tested out float properties for different sections of the blog, but it either changed dramatically or not at all, so I did not make any changes. All I saw took effect are the changes section size, margin, or positioning. I also tried out the styling-list codes but it did not show up. I guess I placed it in the wrong sections of the html.

Response: Digital Nation

I believe technology IS a progress in society. It provides us with useful tools and information, BUT that does not mean we should completely abandon simple customs, such as reading a book or learning how to find a word in a dictionary book. As technology advance, humankind will become more inactive. If we have technology to think for us, then we will become lazy and indecisive beings because it has the short-cuts and answers for us.

The Second Life "virtual reality" kind of scares me. I also find it kind of hilarious that these serious workers are using this game as a tool for virtual meetings and interaction. I mean, sure, it brings everyone together, but why can't it be achieved in person? Why can't we be more productive and strive for the experience? Productivity does make the world go round. If everyone met and hung out virtually, then what will happen to the true reality of society? I can understand that one wants to escape from this cruel and demanding world, but is this virtual one really going to help us be more physically active in a community? Is it going to help people gain true skills? Or is it a product for slow brain damage? Also mentioned in this video was the online game, World of Warcraft. I know a couple of people who play this game, and their level of addiction is inhumane. A while back, I came across this story associated with the game: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/news200605wowbaby. So, the game supposedly took "longer" that day. What kind of shit is that? This is a good example of how technology has controlled and over-powered humans.

Back in high school, I use to have group studies with a few of my friends, and most of the time, if we were at someone's house, we were distracted by the television, our phones, or the computer. Then we would get nothing done because no one or one of us couldn't catch up. We would end up studying at a cafe and leaving between 9pm-12am on a school night. You can call it some form of ADD or you can simply blame it all on this technology. I think it is both, but more so of the technology. THEREFORE, I believe in working in a technology-free zone. Well, at least a place where I am incapable of accessing a computer. To keep my focus on what I need to get done, I usually make a list or agenda of things I need to finish, such as homework. Then I take with me only homework and a pen to a nearby coffee shop to finish. I feel that I work better in an environment where everyone is working, reading, and getting things done. It gives me a more serious mindset to accomplish something. Generally, being organized helps keep me from being distracted because I am keeping track of what I should be doing.

Blog Progress 3

I finally figured out the text indent. I guess I was not supposed to place the code in the html section of each blog. Under 'posts' in the html layout code, I put in 'text-indent:__px'; which created indentation for all the blog posts. However, under 'post h3', I had to put in 'text-indentation:0px' because the previously placed 'text-indent' shifts the title of the blog as well.

Blog Progress 2

From header to posts, I made changes to the width and margins of this blog page again. I think I will stop expanding it from here. All you need to do is change the 'width' under 'header-wrapper' and 'outer-wrapper' in the 'Edit HMTL' page.

I tried making changes under 'footer' to see what that is, but I did not see any changes take effect on the page.

Blog Progress

This time, I played around with the borders in the header and line division between posts. I used double and dotted in the header and changed the line division from dotted to solid. I thought solid lines separating the posts would give the blog more organization and distinction.

Under the "Layout" tab and "Edit HTML" tab, this can be edited under the "heading" section of it:

/* Header
----------------------------------------------- */
#header-wrapper {
width:740px;
margin:0 auto 20px;
border:7px double $bordercolor; }
#header {
margin: 20px;
border: 2px dotted $bordercolor;
text-align: center;
color:$pagetitlecolor; }

As for the line separation, that can be changed under "posts":

/* Posts ----------------------------------------------- */
h2.date-header {
margin:1.5em 0 .5em;
} .post {
margin:.5em 0 1.5em;
border-bottom:1px solid $bordercolor;
padding-bottom:1.5em;
}

There are much more border styles shown on http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/css_border.asp

I also changed the text-align for the post section. It can be changed to right, left, center, or justified.

Social Networking

The concept of social networking has been around to keep us connected with friends and family. Through speech, actions, appearance, etc., we all choose to express ourselves in different ways. Whether if this expression is virtual or physical, we all have our own personal profiles.

A physical social network deals more with going out there and creating the experience. It is the physical way of making friends face to face. It is so live and real that you develop true emotions rather than the skeptical kind. A digital social network is more about connecting with the world through the internet. It is the rise of a new generation. It connects us internet users to old friends, new friends, current friends, family members, random pedophiles and the alike. I believe the two do interact with each other, BUT I also believe that they do not always have to.

In a way, I think it is dangerous. In the world of digital social networking, anyone anywhere can create a profile of themselves. A male can create a social profile as a female, or vise versa, and no one would know, which in my opinion is a little creepy. Private information you put out there can be viewed by everyone. Whether if it is a genuine or false one, emotions are not always played out as true. For example, online, I might say LOL(laugh out loud) to respond to a certain message or comment, but in reality, I am not really laughing out loud, nor do I think it is funny in some cases, and this is probably true to some of you. We say these things for courtesy and affirmation, which brings back to my point that the negatives of digital social networking is that strong expressiveness on screen is not always strong behind screen. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it is an easier way to connect to family and friends from all over the world.

Progress of Blog #3

I'm wondering what the money sign in the html means. I see it throughout the code. I switched it to a color code but nothing changed. I wanted to better comprehend these codes, so I also tried the 'padding' codes on this blog instead of using the space bar, but it did not work.

I think I just figured out the text-indent just now. I do not remember how I got here, but I think it has something to do with the text align and span. Maybe? The code popped up when I clicked 'Edit Html'.

There is more I can do to this page. I tried changing the colors around in this blog, but all the colors I tried changing does not seem to fit the purpose of it. I kept the darker text instead of the faded grays and kept the expanded middle section. I believe it creates an easier read for the viewer.

Progress of Blog #2

This time, I tested out and tried to understand the margins of the page. To edit the width of the left and right margins, I found out it can be changed through the 'wrapper' section of the html. The outer wrapper changed the left side of the page; it moved the whole blog section over. The main wrapper changed the position and size of the section of blogs, and the sidebar-wrapper for the sidebar information. I changed up these margins because the width of the blog was too narrow and hard to read. I changed the margins and spacing of the header as well. Generally, I wanted to understand how the margins worked and how spacing something can give this blog a different feel. I am still having a little trouble on understanding 'line-height'. When I was working on the header, I didn't see it take effect on anything.

I'm not use to typing out paragraphs without indenting. So I found the code for a text indentation on http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/CSS_reference.asp, but I can't seem to get this specific code to work. I'm not so sure what I typed incorrectly.

Progress of Blog

I tried adjusting my layout slightly. I don't think I got as far as I wanted to. I started out by changing up the font colors to a darker shade. I found it to give my page a more bold view. I went to the layout section and tested out some html but did not save any changes. I am still a little confused with some of the tag meanings, but I tried putting in different color codes and sizes to test out what it would look like. I found some things that changed as I previewed these adjustments. However, some changes didn't come up, or I didn't know where the changes had taken place.

Past Project

This was a previous color and shape project from my last semester's 2D class. We had to create two collages and two paintings of the collages. One of them was based on analogous colors and the other on split complimentary.

colorwheel.gif

First, I gathered any found papers and magazines.

recycle-old-magazines.jpg

We had to look for different colors in our found papers to meet the requirements. For my analogous piece, I chose to use colors from the blue, blue violet, violet, and red violet groups. I decided to use rounded and wavy shapes, which I had also done for my second collage on split complimentary. Once I assembled all my cut outs, I began to glue and place them in different spots and directions to create a more abstract approach.

This is the final product of the analogous collage.

For my second piece on split complimentary, I decided to use colors from the yellow, red orange, and blue-green groups. As I did in my first collage, I collected the colors I wanted to use and made a variety of wavy and rounded shapes as well.

After the first part of the two finished collages. The final part of the project was to paint them on canvas. I decided to make a sketch on the canvas board first for a more accurate placement of my shapes. With Liquitex paints and a palette knife, I began to mix colors that corresponded to the colors on the collages.

Beginning with my analogous piece, I used blue and red to create the colors in between, which were the violets. I also mixed in black for shades and white for tints. I first began painting the background, then I painted in the objects.

For my split complimentary piece, I used blue and green to achieve the teal colors, which I used to paint the background first. As I got to opposite colors, I used yellow and red to make orange.

The main goal and objective to this project was to get a good grasp on the relationship between colors and shapes. I think it gave me a better understanding of color mixing and how different shapes in a visual can affect the way an image is viewed.

Digital Publishing

To find dependable and valid information, it is essential to do research. Ever since I started writing essays and research papers for school, I was taught to look for information I can trust in order to write a legit and convincing report. Thus, through years of finding reliability in library books, I find more trustworthy sources there. If I wanted to verify the credibility of an internet source, I usually check for an author's name or for its publishing information.

In today's world, the media is one of the things that will either make us sane, indifferent, or frenzied with emotion. We feed off this supposedly "conventional" source for reasons of entertainment, curiosity, knowledge, etc. I honestly cannot say I fully trust the media. I feel that some of the information they put out there are exaggerated. Not every news source will portray a story as is. Judgements and opinions are thrown and spread out there like an atomic bomb in a nuclear war, and this is how attention is acquired. The more suspense a story has, the more it will attract consumers, big corporations, the public, etc. However, I do not believe that they are a complete lie when it comes to serious business. I get my news off the internet, the radio, sometimes the newspaper, and from time to time, I have conversations with friends about current issues. I try to get news from a variety of sources just to validate the general issues that are happening, and usually, these issues do get replayed over and over again, which brings me to believe the subject itself.

It is important for me to know what is going on in the society we live in. Everything we do is connected to the events that happen among us. I simply believe that it is important to be aware of how we live our lives and how we are interconnected with anything that happens to us and even society as a whole. We as human beings are the roots to progress; we are the reasons for change. Having knowledge of reality and existing problems will prevent us from being oblivious to the underlying truths of society.
